Attendance at each class and the retreat required.
TUITION: $650.00 due upon acceptance
into the program unless otherwise negotiated with VRCH.
- Additional requirement: purchase of required texts available through
VRCH.
- Most organizations will pay partially or in entirety for your participation.
- Please inquire about scholarships.
- PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE TO: Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii
WHO SHOULD APPLY:
- Representatives of organizations, businesses, and communities of faith
who would like to improve or establish a volunteer program.
- Teachers, social workers, or other social service personnel who aspire
to promote volunteerism within their community.
- Managers of volunteer programs who are interested in connecting professionally
with other, and potential volunteer managers.
PREREQUISITE:
- Commitment and enthusiasm to participate in active learning to acquire
or improve skills in volunteer management.
- A statement on why you wish to join the program.
DESIRABLE:
Experience in volunteer management, organizing and working with volunteers
or as a volunteer, and an interest in learning more about Hawaii's communities
and people.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A comprehensive certificate program based on professionally identified
volunteer management skills, and centered on the values inherent in Hawaii’s
culture — the Aloha Spirit and Ohana — combining
“head, heart, and hands” — the intellectual, affective,
and experiential learning. The course combines self and group study, directed
readings, lecture-discussions, interactive site and program visitations,
opportunities for unique experiences, shared insights and reflections
with colleagues. Individual portfolios will be created that will serve
as an ever-present guide for a well-managed project or organization. Participants
will form a network of colleagues that will serve as a sounding board,
support and inspiration in the advancement of the profession of Volunteer
Management and Administration.
