Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii

The Volunteer Resource Center of Hawaii (VRCH), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was established in 2002 by a group of government, corporate and community leaders who recognized the need for a statewide volunteerism infrastructure to maximize the impact of volunteers in Hawaii.

The VRCH mission is to foster the spirit and professional growth of volunteerism and community building.

Key directives:

  • Provide opportunities to expand the professional education and networking of individuals involved with the management of volunteers.
  • Provide opportunities to involve volunteers in community building.
  • Foster the global understanding, acceptance, and practice of volunteerism and community building.
  • Provide a library and database of resources to organizations and individuals seeking to improve their understanding and participation in volunteerism.

Current programs to achieve our goals:

Education and Training:

  • Certificate in Volunteer Management
  • Liability and Risk Management Workshops
  • Character and Values Education Programs
  • “Educare” in Education Programs
  • Collaborative projects with the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Social Work and the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, Family and Community Leadership Program and the Center on the Family

Community Building:
Special educational services for an integrated approach to assist immigrant groups to become productive new citizens in Hawaii. VRCH 2004-2005 Community Building Project: Micronesian Community Network.

Conference and Seminar Services (land and sea conferences):
Organization and implementation of meetings and conferences large and small; local, national and international.

  • Sharing Aloha: Social Work in Hawaii Seminars I (2004) and II (2005) and currently in planning for 2006
  • International Volunteer Management seminars and conferences
